A Quilt In is where members, their friends and other groups gather for a day to work together on their own individual projects. This activity recalls the days when women gathered for quilting and socialising. We come together for a day without interruptions from the world at large and indulge in our "pleasure".
Often members from other quilt groups are invited to join AQA members for the day. There is a cover charge, and morning and afternoon teas are provided. Just bring a mug and your lunch. All are welcome - bring along some Show & Tell and handwork to work on or just chat. There is a door prize, raffles and a guest speaker. Stall holders are also in attendance.

Carrum Downs group meeting
Our Carrum Downs girls had another busy face-to-face meeting in November, which was also their AGM. (SCQuilters is a virtual entity but our real world entities have to follow the rules for groups!) A big thank you goes to Ramona who has been keeping this group (mostly) on the straight and narrow for ages! She hands the baton of group management over to Simone and the two Marilyns.
Check out more of their adventures on the Carrum Downs blog.
Their next meeting is their Christmas/end of year meeting on Wednesday December the 3rd.
Helen says: "It will be our “All singing, all dancing Christmas extravaganza”; CDs from the official “Evans Daggy Christmas Collection” will be played for your listening pleasure.
A Christmas quiz may take place. There may be a special prize for the Christmas quiz, which may take place."
As well as normal show and tell, members will bring Christmas themed show and tell – it can be a little decoration or a huge quilt – anything you have made especially for Christmas.
There will be a Kris Kringle pressie swap – a gift of around $15 –$20, home made or purchased.
Please bring a small plate of food to share for the special lunch. If anyone has some special Christmas decorations, please bring them along on the day.
Sounds like they'll have a fun time as always!

You can also see some of the Zentangles that the group made, under Lee's instructions.
The members' own show and tell will be uploaded soon too, so there'll be lots there to look at this time!

Gatherings and groups today Pt2
Another long running SCQuilters group in the Melbourne area occurs at Carrum Downs on the first Wednesday of every month. The group has a blog http://carrumdownsscquilters.blogspot.com/ which records (loosely) the facts and frivolity that take place when Scquilters from around the south/east of Melbourne, as well as any who happen to be visiting the area, get together. Coordinator Helen says, "I think one of our best meetings ever was the one before the Bendigo retreat several years ago when we had visitors from all over Australia. Anyway, we have been meeting for over 13 years, sharing our highs and lows in quilting and in life in general."
"We try have regular charity days, including the "biggest Morning Tea" for cancer research, visiting speakers, travelling "suitcase" quilt shows and occasional classes."
"We have a fabulous lending library too. It is a very welcoming group and we willingly share our expertise (or lack of it) with other members of the group. And our Christmas parties each December are really something special. Read our blog and see what you think."

Gatherings and groups today Pt1
Seventeen years later, SCQuilters continue the great tradition of gatherings and groups. Some states have formal groups that meet regularly; other gatherings occur when someone decides to organise something.
Our longest running SCQuilters group is probably the SCQuilty Tarts, in Melbourne. This group meets on the third Tuesday of the month in Glen Waverley in Melbourne. It is a lovely well lit room and parking is no problem. Unfortunately at the moment we are quite a small group, but the numbers do fluctuate. The group has a blog http://www.scquiltytarts.blogspot.com/ and a Yahoogroup.
